GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Louis Ivory rushed for 135 yards and scored two touchdowns and Walter Booth intercepted three passes to lead Furman to a 35-21 upset against third-ranked Appalachian State Saturday.

Derek Russell and Justin Hall also had rushing touchdowns as the Paladins (4-1, 3-0) moved into second place in the Southern Conference behind Georgia Southern. Furman finished with 300 yards rushing and held the Mountaineers (3-2, 2-1) to 170.

Marty Priore and Ivory scored on runs of 1-yard and 16-yards in the first quarter to give the Furman a 14-0 lead.

Appalachian, which was ranked in the Division I-AA, cut the lead in half with its own end zone fumble recovery on the first play of the second quarter when Neil Cornatzer caught quarterback David Reaves' fumble on an option from the three.

The Mountaineers' Daryl Skinner scored on a 2-yard pass from Joe Burchette with 13 seconds remaining in the game, but it wasn't enough to catch Furman, which had the largest win margin over a Division I-AA ranked team since a 17-3 victory against Marshall in 1993.
