LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) _ Joe Spagnola passed for 128 yards and three touchdowns to lead Siena College to a 38-6 win over Canisius College Saturday.

Spagnola completed 11 of 15 throws on the day and led the Saints in a 28-point second quarter.

Siena (3-4, 3-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) scored first on a 64-yard drive that ended with Joe Penizotto's 14-yard TD run. But Canisius (1-6, 0-4) came back with a 14-yard TD pass from Bryan Roland (11 of 31, 76 yards, three interceptions) to Jake Coppola at the end of the quarter which, after the extra-point attempt failed, cut Siena's lead to 7-6.

Spagnola hit Penizotto (65 yards rushing, 26 yards receiving) on a 1-yard pass, Chris Madigan on a 23-yard pass, and Bill Hisgen on a 38-yard pass for three touchdowns in the second quarter.

The 6-foot, 6-inch Hisgen tipped the ball between two colliding defenders, spun, caught the ball and ran untouched into the end zone.

Siena's Brian Gehm intercepted a pass and ran it 28 yards for another TD in the quarter that surpassed any final game total so far this season for Siena.

Don Record's 33-yard field goal with 8:31 left in the game finished the scoring.

``This victory was the next step that the Siena program needed to take,'' said head coach Chris Phelps
