INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Ira Vandever threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score Saturday to lead Drake to a 53-6 rout of Butler in the Pioneer League.

Phil Joseph also scored three touchdowns for Drake (5-3 overall, 1-2 Pioneer League) on runs of 2, 3 and 1 yards, all in the first half. Drake led Butler (3-5, 0-4) 43-0 at intermission.

Vandever opened the scoring with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Joseph early in the first quarter. He also threw TD passes of 44 and 33 yards to Aaron Overton, who had 102 receiving yards.

Vandever completed 16 of 19 attempts for 243 yards and was never sacked. He scored his TD run from four yards out early in the third quarter.

Drake rolled up 517 yards on offense while holding Butler to just 146 yards, 41 of them on the ground.

Butler's only score came on a 26 yard pass from Steve Scola to Matt Holthaus with 10:03 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point was blocked.

Scola had replaced Brent Schwanekamp, who completed only four of 14 passes for just 29 yards and was intercepted three times.

Billy Cundiff kicked two field goals for Drake from 22 and 32 yards out.
