TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Mike Megyesi kicked a 38-yard field goal in overtime to give Indiana State a 39-36 Gateway Conference victory over Western Illinois on Saturday.

The freshman kicker made field goals of 45, 42 and 22 yards during regulation and missed a 42-yarder in overtime for the Sycamores (2-5, 1-2).

Joe Lopez missed on three field goal attempts for the Leathernecks (5-3, 1-3) _ a 30-yard try in the fourth quarter and attempts of 45 and 53 yards in overtime.

Quarterback Sheraton Fox ran for 175 yards on 24 carries as the Sycamores gained 357 yards on the ground. Jared Sessum added 82 yards on 14 carries.

Charles Tharp carried the ball 40 times for 143 yards for Western Illinois. Mark Zanders completed 14-of-24 passes for 213 yards.

Tharp caught two passes for 42 yards and Bobby Starks added 43 yards on three catches including a 41-yard touchdown reception.

Facing a 29-19 deficit midway through the third quarter, Fox ran for a 49-yard touchdown with 6:18 left and Megyesi made a 22-yard field goal to tie the score at 29. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
