CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) _ Cedric Crudup returned an interception 68 yards for a touchdown to start Western Carolina on its way to a 40-2 win over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

Darius Hooks ran for 108 yards for the Western Carolina (2-6, 1-5 Southern Conference) including a 17-yard touchdown with 19 seconds in the first half that gave the Catamounts a 33-0 lead.

VMI (1-8, 0-6 SC) managed only 169 total yards, just 31 coming through the air. The Keydets lone score came on a safety with 7:41 left in the game.

Following Crudup's interception return, the Catamounts added five touchdowns with none of the drives lasting more than 1:22.

Shawn Snyder completed 9 of 16 passes for 149 yards, including a 5-yard scoring pass to Lamont Williams.

But Western Carolina runners were equally effective. Led by Hooks, the Catamounts chewed up 232 yards on the ground.
