As a young coach, Bobby Bowden idolized Bear Bryant. Now, he's tied with Bryant for career victories. Florida State used a fourth quarter rally to notch a 30-17 victory over Virginia Tech to give Bowden career victory No. 323.

The Seminoles were really able to go deep on Virginia Tech. Javon Walker had a huge game and was the star, making some nice catches downfield and scoring a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away. And Chris Rix hung in the pocket, took some hits when he was pressured, and delivered the ball accurately. Rix is a redshirt freshman and a star of the future. He may end up being one of the best quarterbacks Bobby Bowden ever had. He is that good. He emerged in the game as a big-time player making some outstanding throws. Meanwhile, Greg Jones ran hard in the second half and allowed the Seminoles to get in a position where they could just run the clock out at the end.

season, made the play of the day and wrist-flicked a pass that
Javon Walker turned into a 77-yard touchdown to give the Seminoles
the lead for good.The pass, which came as Rix was being leveled by a Hokies blitz,
sparked a 17-point fourth quarter to send the 'Noles to the victory. |

| Who else -- coach Bobby Bowden. What a long, strange trip it's been for Bowden on the way to tying his idol, Bear Bryant, for career wins. But Bryant scored No. 323 with a Gator Bowl win and while he may downplay its significance, those close to Bowden say it means a lot to him. |
