Tar Heels send Allen back to Chapel Hill

Associated Press

ATLANTA -- North Carolina suspended receiver and punt returner Bosley Allen for the Peach Bowl for violating unspecified team rules, coach John Bunting said Thursday.

Allen, a junior from Bradenton, Fla., had 39 receptions this season for 562 yards and four touchdowns.

"We have team policies when we are on the road and we were very thorough in explaining team policies," Bunting said. "He violated team rules and is suspended for the game and we're sending him home."

North Carolina (7-5) arrived in Atlanta on Wednesday for its Monday game against Auburn.

Allen averaged 10.3 yards on 32 punt returns. Sam Aiken, the Tar Heels' leading receiver, is expected to return punts in the bowl game, a team official said.
