Rix to return as top QB for Florida State

Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS -- Quarterback Chris Rix will start again for Florida State during spring drills after his suspension for the Sugar Bowl.

"We'll monitor him now as good as we can ... we've got to now,'' Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said Thursday.

Bowden said Rix let the team down when he failed to take a final exam and was suspended for the Sugar Bowl. Rix said he was worried about his father's health when he overslept and missed the test.

"We've got to make sure he don't miss nothing,'' Bowden said. "There is no excuse. He has simply got to be there.

"We expect them to get up and go to class, we expect them to go eat,'' Bowden added.

Fabian Walker made his first college start in a 26-13 Nokia Sugar Bowl loss to Georgia on Wednesday. He will be No. 2 and redshirt freshman Wyatt Sexton will be the third-team quarterback.

Bowden said Walker would have gone into the spring drills as No. 1 if the Seminoles had beaten Georgia.

"If we would've won the game, I would've said, 'We're pretty danged good, but we've been unlucky,''' Bowden said. "By not winning, I can't say that.''
