Hokies can't match scintillating Seminoles
Virginia Tech made Florida State sweat in the third quarter of the Sugar Bowl, but the Seminoles came charging back to take a 46-29 victory and the national title. FSU's Peter Warrick scored on a punt return and two TD passes from Chris Weinke, who also threw a pair of scoring strikes to Ron Dugans. The win gave Florida State its first perfect season under coach Bobby Bowden and second national title of the decade.

Peter Warrick hauled in a 43-yard TD catch to put FSU up by 17. The 'Noles answered Virginia Tech's 22 straight points with an 18-point burst, capped by Warrick's second TD catch.
Warrick, who set a Sugar Bowl record by scoring 20 points. He caught TD passes of 64 and 43 yards, returned a punt 59 yards for a score and caught a two-point conversion.
