Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has accepted the Georgia Tech head coaching post, ESPN's Hank Goldberg reported on Tuesday.

A formal announcement is expected on Friday or Saturday.

	Chan Gailey considered the Georgia job last year, and now has accepted the Georgia Tech post.

However, Georgia Tech athletic director Dave Braine shot down the report. He said Tuesday a new coach won't be introduced until after the Yellow Jackets, under interim coach Mac McWhorter, play Stanford in the inaugural Seattle Bowl on Thursday.

"It's not true," Braine told The Associated Press by telephone from his Seattle hotel room. "We've told the kids we're not going to do anything until after the game."

Braine declined to say if an announcement was expected then, but said, "We're coming home right after the game."

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on its Web site late Tuesday that Georgia Tech intends to introduce Gailey as its new coach on Saturday.

The Miami Herald said in its editions on Tuesday that Georgia Tech administrators were impressed with Gailey during a recent interview in South Florida and decided to offer him the job, even though Gailey insisted on finishing his second season with the Dolphins.

That was an issue when the University of Georgia interviewed Gailey last December and wanted him available for recruiting. Georgia hired former Florida State University offensive coordinator Mark Richt.

Gailey is a native of Gainesville, Ga. and grew up in Americus. He did not return a phone message Monday, but issued a statement through the Dolphins, both newspapers said.

"I'm not going to comment on any rumors that might be out there right now," Gailey said. "Right now I'm just worried about the Falcons on Sunday."

Besides having strong ties to Georgia, Gailey also is a proven head coach, one of the qualifications Braine said he was looking for when the search began two weeks ago.

Gailey was the Dallas Cowboys' head coach in 1998 and '99, making the playoffs both years. He was fired despite an 18-14 record.

Gailey, a former University of Florida quarterback, was head coach at Troy State (1983-84) and Samford (1993) before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers staff in 1994.

Braine also has met with Boston College head coach Tom O'Brien, New York Giants assistant coach Jimmy Robinson, Maryland offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe and interim coach Mac McWhorter.
