Pacific Lutheran to play Rowan for title

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Anthony Hicks rushed for four touchdowns as Pacific Lutheran upset host Trinity 49-28 in a NCAA Division III semifinal Saturday.

The senior running back rushed for 92 yards in 18 carries. He also caught five passes for 83 yards.

Quarterback Chad Johnson completed 16-of-22 for 235 yards and one touchdown with one interception. The junior also rushed for 85 yards on seven carries and one touchdown, also of 6 yards.

Pacific Lutheran racked up 206 yards rushing and 235 passing for 441 total yards. The Tigers were limited to a season-low two yards rushing and 437 passing for a 439 total.

Trinity junior quarterback Mike Burton connected on a school-record 39 of 57 passes for 437 yards and four touchdowns, including a 50-yarder and one of 35 yards. It wasn't enough, however.

The Tigers also had lost three fumbles and an interception, and Burton was sacked 11 times for 79 yards.

The victory snapped Tigers' 24-game home winning streak and gives the Lutes (12-1) their first-ever trip to Saturday's national championship game, the Amos Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va.

Pacific Lutheran (12-1) will play Rowan (12-1), which upset defending champion Mount Union 24-17 in overtime in their semifinal Saturday.

That snapped Mount Union's record 54-game winning streak. Trinity (12-1) fell to Mount Union in last year's semifinals.
