A look at the turmoil that has surrounded the Alabama football program in the last decade:

January 1993
Alabama beats Miami 34-13 in the Sugar Bowl to finish 13-0 and win the 1992 national championship under coach Gene Stallings. Early the next morning, defensive back Antonio Langham signs with a sports agent, but the underclassman decides to stay at Alabama.

September 1994
NCAA delivers letter of inquiry accusing Alabama of rules violations under Stallings for allowing Langham to play during the 1993 season.

August 1995
Alabama is placed on probation for three years, banned from a bowl appearance, ordered to give up 26 scholarships over three years and forced to forfeit eight victories from 1993. It is the program's first NCAA penalty.

November 1995
NCAA appeals committee lifts one year of probation and restores nine scholarships.

May 1996
NCAA strips football program of one scholarship for failing to disclose player loans.

November 1996
NCAA infractions committee admits making a major mistake in its handling of the Langham case, apologizes to a school official. Stallings later retires, leading to the hiring of defensive coordinator Mike DuBose.

May 1999
DuBose denies rumors of improper conduct with a former secretary, but later says the denial was "misleading." Alabama pays $360,000 to settle the woman's sexual harassment claim.

November 2000
DuBose resigns.

December 2000
Texas Christian coach Dennis Franchione named new coach. He was not the Crimson Tide's first choice.

January 2001
Rumors surface that an Alabama booster is said to have paid a preps coach $200,000 to steer a top recruit, Albert Means, to the program.

August 2001
Federal grand jurors in Memphis indict former Trezevant High School head coach Lynn Lang and former assistant Milton Kirk on charges of trying to sell Means to seven schools.

Sept. 6, 2001
After grand jurors in Memphis indicted two prep coaches a month earlier for trying to sell Means to school, Alabama receives official notice of alleged rules violations from NCAA.

November 2002
Franchione leaves program to coach Texas A&M. He spent two seasons at Alabama.

Dec. 12, 2002
Washington State's Mike Price hired as new coach, agreeing to a seven-year contract.

April 28, 2003
Rumors surface that Price allegedly paid for lap dances during a golf trip to Florida.

May 3, 2003
Price fired for off-the-field conduct before he even coached a game.
