Bruins cruise past Cougars

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Maylana Martin scored 21 points Sunday night to lead No. 17 UCLA to an 87-60 win over Washington State in a Pac-10 conference game.

UCLA (8-4, 2-0) held Washington State (3-8, 0-2) scoreless for the first 8:19 and jumped out to a 16-0 lead.

Martin scored half of the Bruins' 16 points during the opening run. Alke Dietel scored on a layup at 11:41 after the Cougars missed their first nine shots.

UCLA led 40-18 at halftime and Washington State was unable to get closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

Victoria Harrod led Washington State with 14 points, while Joanna Smith had 11.

Janae Hubbard had 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for UCLA. Nicole Kaczmarski scored 14 points and Marie Philman added 10.
