FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- After 36 years, LSU's Sue Gunter is finally a member of the 600 Club.

Gunter's Lady Tigers (No. 19 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) withstood a series of surges, but finally put together a 14-0 run to end the game and give LSU an 81-69 victory Thursday night over Arkansas.

Gunter became just the fourth women's coach in NCAA history to win 600. Other members of the 600 Club are Pat Summitt of Tennessee, Jody Conradt of Texas and Vivian Stringer of Rutgers.

Summitt recently won her 700th, Stringer won her 600th last month.

"There's an awful lot of players and coaches I'm indebted to and I wish they could be here to share in it," Gunter said. "But I couldn't be happier that it happened with these kids tonight. They played very well.

"Now it's over with and I'm thankful and we don't have to talk about it any more."

LSU players, toting flyers with the number "600," danced off the court after the victory and ran to their locker room.

Gunter, who has downplayed the milestone, said her team was really celebrating because it outrebounded Arkansas 38-35. It was just the fifth time LSU has done that this season.

For Gunter, the victory was more important for what it contributed to the team's won-lost record. Her Tigers improved to 12-3 and 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas lost for the fifth time in six games, falling to 9-5 and 0-2.

"The thing we kept saying over and over and over was you will win the game on the defensive end of the floor," Gunter said. "You've got to board, block out and defend. "I'll be darned if that's not exactly what they did."

LSU's DeTrina White was the key ingredient in that game plan. The sophomore center scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, her fourth straight double-double and sixth straight double-figure rebound game.

White had a career high for points and offensive rebounds (nine). She converted every one of those into baskets or free throws, resulting in 17 points.

"Absolutely phenomenal," Gunter said. "She played like she was possessed. So did Marie (Ferdinand)."

Ferdinand had 20 points despite just 9-of-24 shooting. Katrina Hibbert added 16 points.

At the other end, Arkansas guard Wendi Willits kept the Lady Razorbacks in the game. She sank 6 of 8 3-point attempts to finish with 25 points. Dana Cherry added 12.

"We tried not to let her (Willits) spot up out of transition, but you can't keep her from scoring," Gunter said. "You give her an inch and she'll nail it."

With the victory, Gunter ran her career record to 600-269 overall and 334-182 in 18 years at LSU. She got her 500th win in 1995 over Jackson State, No. 400 over Pacific in 1988 and No. 300 against Alabama in 1984.
