Red-hot Duke setting pace in ACC

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Missy West scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, as Duke (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) beat Wake Forest 82-48 Thursday.

Duke (15-1, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated Wake Forest (5-10, 1-3) for the 14th straight time and extended its winning streak to 14 games, having last lost on Nov. 17 to then-No. 20 Boston College.

The Blue Devils also increased their league-best home winning streak against ACC opponents to 18 games.

West, who averaged less than one 3-pointer a game this season, was 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Her previous best in 3-point shooting was 4-of-8 against Elon last month.

Duke took a 20-point lead at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half. West's sixth 3-pointer with 16:07 left gave Duke a 51-29 lead. Peppi Browne hit a jumper and Lauren Rice sank a 3 for a 56-31 lead with 13:45 remaining.

Krista Gingrich, scoreless in the first half, made two straight 3s for a 64-35 lead with 10:29 to go.

Duke jumped out to a 9-0 lead on two 3s by West and one by Georgia Schweitzer in the first 2:05.

Wake Forest got as close as 23-18 after Johanna Bjorklund's basket with 6:21 left in the half. Duke regained the momentum on Schweitzer's rebound basket and a basket by Browne for a 29-20 lead.

Duke held the Demon Deacons scoreless in the final five minutes of the half.

Schweitzer and Browne finished with 10 points apiece.

Janae Whiteside led Wake Forest with 11 points.

Wake Forest, last in the ACC in scoring (59 points a game), has lost three in a row.
