  RECAP | BOX SCORE

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Stacy Frese and Megan Taylor each made four 3-pointers and Desiree Francis added 12 points and 12 rebounds, leading Iowa State (No. 9 ESPN/USA Today; No. 8 AP) to a 79-67 victory over North Carolina on Sunday.

Iowa State (14-2), winning for the 10th straight time, led by 30 with 7½ minutes left before coach Bill Fennelly cleared his bench and North Carolina (10-8) rallied by pressing the Cyclones' reserves.

The Tar Heels scored 16 straight points to cut the lead to 11 and Fennelly sent his starters back in with 1:14 left to finish the game.

Frese, who did not score until hitting a 3-pointer at the 5:12 mark in the first half, finished with 16 points. Angie Welle scored 14, Taylor 12 and freshman reserve Lindsey Wilson 10.

Iowa State outrebounded North Carolina 55-39 to offset its 40.6 percent shooting and 25 turnovers. North Carolina shot 32 percent.

LaQuanda Barksdale's 19 points led North Carolina, which lost for the sixth time in seven games. The Tar Heels have played the last six without point guard Nikki Teasley, who is on a leave of absence.

Coach Sylvia Hatchell said Teasley would return Monday to watch practice, but was not sure when she would play again.

North Carolina stayed close early with its offensive rebounding and Barksdale's scoring. She had eight of the Tar Heels' first 15 points and her 3-pointer from the top of the key drew North Carolina to 21-19 with 7:35 left in the first half.

But Barksdale did not score for the next 22 minutes and Iowa State outscored the Tar Heels 48-22 during that stretch.

Taylor and Frese hit back-to-back 3-pointers in a 12-2 run that put Iowa State ahead 33-21, and the lead was never below double figures after that.

North Carolina managed only six points in the first 8½ minutes of the second half as the lead grew to 54-32. Three-pointers by Frese and Wilson and Wilson's two free throws finished a 12-2 burst that made it 67-37 with 7:46 left.
