CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- The LSU Lady Tigers (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 10 AP) shot themselves out of the SEC tournament.

Ashley McElhiney scored 14 points as Vanderbilt capitalized on LSU's shooting problems to beat the Lady Tigers 59-46 on Friday night in the quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Vanderbilt (20-11) will play second-ranked Tennessee in the semifinals Saturday night. Tennessee beat Florida 91-79.

LSU (22-6) opened with the worst half ever in school history, scoring 11 points on 5-for-26 shooting. The Tigers' previous low was 20 points against Purdue in 1989.

"You have to do two things to have a chance to win in this game," LSU coach Sue Gunter said. "You have to play defense, and you have to score. We did one of those two."

Gunter credited Vanderbilt's zone defense, which has been the SEC's stingiest all season, and Vanderbilt coach Jim Foster agreed.

"The constant in the game of basketball is defense," Foster said. "That will never change. Offense comes and goes. Defense is a mentality and attitude. It can stay around."

Chantelle Anderson added 13 points for Vanderbilt and Zuzi Klimesova had 10.

The Lady Tigers came in with four starters averaging in double figures but turned in their worst scoring performance of the season.

Only April Brown (15) and Katrina Hibbert (10) reached double digits, as leading scorer Marie Ferdinand was 2-of-11 for four points.

The Tigers didn't quit and pulled within four twice, the last at 37-33 on a three-point play by Brown with 7:59 remaining.

But Anderson hit a jumper, and LSU never threatened again.

"We gave ourselves a chance in the second half," Gunter said. "But we ran out of gas."
