BOX SCORE
CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Taru Tuukkanen scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Jennifer Phillips added 21 points and five assists, leading 18th-ranked Xavier to an 80-62 victory over Kentucky. Both Tuukkanen and Phillips had season highs in points. Tuukkanen, a 6-3 center from Finland, had her third double-double of the season and 20th career as Xavier repeatedly went inside against the young Kentucky squad. "They have four freshman who are very athletic, we were looking to take advantage of them down low," Tuukkanen said. "Opponents have to make a choice who to guard." There was no right choice for the Wildcats. Tuukkanen hit 12-of-19 from the field for the game, while the Lady Musketeers (6-0) shot 58 percent (14-of-24) in the second half. "We are a very young team in the post area and Xavier took advantage of that," Kentucky coach Bernadette Mattox said. Peetta Piipari, a former member of the Finnish national team, scored just six points but dished out nine assists. Alvine Mendeng led the Wildcats (2-4) with 12 points. Selia Helm added 11 and Kristin Connolly scored 10. Tuukkanen scored eight points in the first four minutes of the game as the Lady Musketeers broke out to a 13-2 lead. They led by as much as 14 points, but could not completely shake the Wildcats until the second half. Xavier went on a 20-8 run late in the second half to eliminate any doubt. Nicole Levandusky capped the run with a 3-pointer that made it 74-55 with 2:14 left.
