STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Lisa Shepherd hit a 3-pointer from the left corner with 8.7 seconds left to give Penn State a 77-76 victory over Vanderbilt. The Commodores (6-2; No. 24 ESPN/USA Today; No. 23 Associated Press) had one last chance to win, but Maren Walseth blocked Ashley McElhiney's shot and Shepherd recovered the ball as time expired. Zuzana Klimesova, who led all scorers with 23 points, hit a bank shot inside with 20 seconds left to give Vanderbilt a 76-74 lead. Penn State (5-3; No. 11 ESPN/USA Today; No. 13 AP) trailed by as many as 14 points, 72-58, before staging a comeback. Rashana Barnes scored eight points in a 13-0 run that brought the Lions to 72-71. Chantelle Anderson snapped the run with a bank shot inside, but Jessica Brungo's 3-pointer with 41 seconds left tied the game at 74-74. Shepherd and Barnes each finished with 20 points for Penn State. Kelly Mazzante scored 12 for the Lions. Vanderbilt got 18 points from Anderson, and Jenni Benningfield had 11 rebounds. Klimesova had scored 21 points when she picked up her fourth foul and went to the bench with Vanderbilt leading 54-46 and 12:39 left in the game. But the Commodores found other scorers. Jillian Danker scored twice, then fed Anderson on the fastbreak to give Vanderbilt a 63-52 lead, the first double-digit lead of the game, with 9:52 left. The first half was a seesaw affair, with four ties and 14 lead changes. Vanderbilt's 15-9 lead with 14:04 was the largest lead of the half.
