CINCINNATI (AP) -- Freshman guard Valerie King scored a
season-high 26 points to help Cincinnati earn a 75-59 victory over Xavier (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 19 AP) on Tuesday night.

The win was the fifth in a row and sixth in the last seven games
for Cincinnati (5-1) against Xavier (5-1). The Bearcats extended
their overall series lead to 17-6.
King scored 14 points to help Cincinnati open up a 36-26
halftime lead. She gave the Bearcats their first lead, 12-11, with
10:54 left in the first half, on a 3-pointer. She added six points
during the Bearcats' 19-8 run to end the half.
Cincinnati shot 50 percent from the field (13-for-26), including
5-of-7 on 3-pointers in the first half.
The Bearcats extended their lead to 13 points at 52-39 with
12:36 remaining, before Xavier stormed back to cut it to 56-54 with
6:43 left. But Portia Flournoy hit a free throw and King followed
with back-to-back 3-pointers to give UC 63-54 lead with 3:11 left.
The Bearcats took advantage of off nights and foul trouble by
Xavier's two leading scorers, seniors Nicole Levandusky and Taru
Tuukkanen.
Levandusky, who was leading Xavier with an 18.5 average, was
0-for-5 and scoreless until hitting a layup with 15:52 left. She
finished with two points on 1-for-8 shooting. Tuukkanen was held to
six points, four in the first half.
