BOX SCORE
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Ayana Walker and the young Lady Techsters came up big in the second half to extend their Sun Belt Conference regular-season winning streak to 37 games. Ayana Walker scored 17 of her 23 points in the second half as No. 9 Louisiana Tech beat Arkansas State 62-59 on Sunday in the conference opener for both teams. Brooke Lassiter added 11 points, and Takeisha Lewis had eight points and a season-high 14 rebounds for the Lady Techsters (10-3). "Because we have a young team, an inexperienced team, these kind of wins are big wins for us. I'm very proud of this win," Louisiana Tech coach Leon Barmore said. Jolie McKeirnan led Arkansas State (6-6) with 19 points, and Keeshia Evans had 16. "You know I challenged our post players yesterday, telling them they're probably going to play against the best front line in the nation," Arkansas State coach Brian Boyer said. "I thought they probably did about what we're capable of doing. It's very difficult for 40 minutes when you have to get every single rebound and defend every single cut." With Louisiana Tech up 61-59 with 34 seconds left, Lassiter missed a free throw, but Lewis got the rebound. She passed to Lassiter, who was fouled again. Lassiter then hit one of two throws to complete the scoring. Arkansas State committed 24 turnovers and shot only 30 percent from the field (17-of-56). "There were just a few rebounds we were just close on, a couple shots we were close to hitting, a couple of loose balls we were close to getting," Boyer said. "Unfortunately, against teams of this caliber you can't get close. You've got to get it done." | ALSO SEE Women's College Basketball Scoreboard
