Shepherd's free throws seal victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Kelly Mazzante scored 26 points and Maren Walseth's 15 points included a tiebreaking free throw with three seconds left as Penn State (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) beat Ohio State 66-63 Sunday.

After Ohio State tied the game 63-63 on Tomeka Brown's two foul shots, Walseth was fouled.

Walseth made the first free throw and missed the second, but Lisa Shepherd got the rebound. Shepherd was fouled and made both attempts from the line for the final margin.

Mazzante went 10-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-5 on 3-pointers, and had 10 rebounds. Katrena Carr added 10 points for Penn State (10-3, 2-0 in the Big Ten).

The Nittany Lions took a 24-10 lead on Shepherd's layup with just over nine minutes left in the first half, but the Buckeyes answered with a 10-0 run to close to 33-32 at halftime.

LaToya Turner led the Buckeyes (10-2, 0-2) with 25 points and 11 rebounds. She made 12 of 22 shots from the field.

Jamie Lewis had 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and had seven assists, while Brown also scored 13 for Ohio State.
