Denver puts in a charge against Louisiana Tech

RECAP | BOX SCORE

RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Louisiana Tech had no trouble building a big lead. Protecting it was far more difficult.

Ayana Walker scored 22 points and blocked six shots as No. 8 Louisiana Tech beat Denver 66-46 on Wednesday night.

Takeisha Lewis added 10 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Amber Obaze also had 10 points for the Techsters (11-3, 2-0 Sun Belt). Melissa Garcia led Denver (8-5, 0-2) with 19 points, and Michaela Pavlickova added 10.

Louisiana Tech led 34-16 at the half, but Denver used a 17-5 run to cut the margin to seven.

"We held them to 16 in the first half, but you're not going to do that in the second half," Tech assistant Kurt Budke said. "Anytime you can hold a college team under 50 points, you've got to be happy."

The Techsters went on an 11-2 run in the final 4:30 en route to their 37th consecutive regular-season conference victory and 61st regular-season home victory in a row against a conference opponent.

"We could have easily folded and given up after they got nearly 20 up on us late in the first half, but we showed a lot of character coming back," Denver coach Pam Tanner said.
