ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Alabama's foul trouble made it easy for
Tawana McDonald.
McDonald scored 20 points and blocked five shots as No. 4
Georgia handed the Crimson Tide their most lopsided loss ever,
96-41 in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams Sunday.
"They got in early foul trouble, and we used that to our
advantage," McDonald said after the Bulldogs posted their
biggest margin of victory in a conference game and extended their
winning streak to 11 games.
Three of Alabama's inside players fouled out, and coach Rick
Moody said it was a big factor.
"Georgia has a great team," Moody said. "The final score is
not, however, a fair indication of the type of team we have. We
struggled some today, but we also just literally ran out of bodies
to put in the game. This is just one of 14 SEC games we have to
play. We need to get back to work and get ready for our next one."
Twins Coco and Kelly Miller scored 16 and 14 points,
respectively, and Deanna Nolan added 12 for Georgia (13-2).
Reserve Beth Vice led the Crimson Tide (12-2) with 14 points.
Alabama shot just 26 percent from the field, was outrebounded 43-25
and turned the ball over 24 times.
"I have a lot of confidence in this team," coach Andy Landers
said. "When we get as many as seven players playing really well,
we are really good. And we had that today."
"We are starting to execute our offense so well," Coco Miller
said. "And our intensity on defense has been great, too."
