Albright takes over Shockers after quitting Wisconsin

Associated Press

WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State hired Jane Albright as its women's basketball coach Friday.

Albright, who went 161-107 in nine seasons with Wisconsin, said Feb. 25 that she would not return to the Badgers after the school did not give her a contract extension.

Wisconsin finished 7-21 in her final season, her only losing record at the school.

The Shockers went 14-14 this past season under Darryl Smith, who was fired last month after he went 74-68 in five seasons.

Albright's Wisconsin teams appeared in five NCAA Tournaments and made two appearances in the WNIT.

Before that, she was coached Northern Illinois for seven years, leading the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament in four of her last five seasons.
