The NFL Referees Association wrote a letter Wednesday to Commissioner Paul Tagliabue offering to officiate this weekend's games and donate all compensation to relief efforts in New York and Washington, D.C., for victims of Tuesday's terrorist attacks.

"In somber acknowledgement of our national tragedy, and in solumn tribute to the innocent victims of this nationally tragedy, we offer the following," the NFLRA wrote in its letter. "Should games be played this weekend, the NFLRA will work these games, undertake the work without publicity and donate all compensation for those games, without publicity."

Officials are locked out because of stalled negotiations. Replacement officials were used during the NFL's first week. The NFL is still gathering information as to whether or not to play games this weekend.

The letter also said that when "decency permits" the NFLRA asks for their positions to be re-established.

NFLRA President Ed Hoculi and executive director Bill Carollo wrote the letter.
