Friday, March 8 Williams fits Wannstedt's philosophy By Merril Hoge Special to ESPN.com |

Ricky Williams is the perfect fit for Dave Wannstedt's coaching philosophy in Miami. Because Williams can control the tempo of the game with his running ability, it should allow the Dolphins to be in every game from start to finish, with a chance to win at the end. However, the Dolphins have more to address than just the running back spot. The addition of Williams won't immediately eliminate their running woes because the Dolphins' offensive line struggled last season. People can't automatically say Williams is the final piece to the puzzle. He is an important piece, but the line must be addressed in order for Williams to be the kind of force he can be. The Dolphins are much closer to a championship with Williams than without him. Jay Fiedler is an underrated quarterback. They will have a receving group that could be one of the best in football. They have a full complement -- a big-play threat in Chris Chambers, a speedy receiver in James McKnight and a possession receiver in Oronde Gadsden. They can threaten the third cornerback on every defense they play. The Saints may have lost Williams, but they can fill a lot of holes on both sides of the ball with the two additional picks they received. They now have two first-round picks -- at No. 13 and No. 25. As a team that had been devastated by a lack of picks after drafting Williams, they now have the ability to replenish. That's the key to winning a championship -- drafting well and bringing in players to groom in their system. They obviously feel good about the potential of Deuce McAllister, their first pick a year ago. But remember, they still don't know if he can carry the ball 25 times a game. While Williams carried the bulk of the running load a year ago, McAllister at least had the advantage of backing him up for a year, learning the system and getting a feel for what will be asked of him.
