NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve
McNair was taken to the hospital for tests Sunday after injuring
his chest on a hit by Kansas City defensive end Duane Clemons.
McNair, who had been hit repeatedly by the Chiefs, was
scrambling on third-and-12 play in the fourth quarter when he was
knocked to the ground by Clemons. McNair walked off the field, then
laid down on the ground for several minutes.
"It concerned me when I saw him laying on the sideline, and I
hope that he is not seriously hurt," Titans running back Eddie
George said.
McNair was helped to the bench where he sat for a couple more
minutes before being carted off for X-rays. But the X-rays were
inconclusive, and McNair was taken to Baptist Hospital for further
tests as a precaution.
"He actually took a helmet to the chest," Titans coach Jeff
Fisher said. "He was having troubles taking deep breaths."
Neil O'Donnell replaced McNair and rallied the Titans from a
14-7 deficit to a 17-14 overtime victory. O'Donnell, who went 4-1
filling in while McNair recuperated from back surgery last season,
said he has been trying to teach McNair how to slide.
"Steve's a tough guy, and he'll bounce back from it,"
O'Donnell said. "We just have to wait and see. I've been trying to
teach him for two years how to slide."
McNair was sacked twice and hit repeatedly by the Chiefs. He was
11-of-18 for 93 yards and two interceptions. O'Donnell was 11-of-17
for 132 yards and a touchdown.
