TACOMA, Wash. -- A special Amtrak train carrying Seattle
Seahawks fans slammed into a house that was being towed by a semi
tractor-trailer rig.
None of the 90 passengers was seriously injured. About a dozen
people -- two from the truck, the rest from the train -- were treated
and released at hospitals. The rest of the Amtrak passengers were
bused to Portland, Ore.
The house was demolished and the train was taken out of service.
"You don't often see a house on the tracks," Washington State
Patrol Lt. Dan Eikum said Sunday.
The truck was trying to maneuver its load under overhead wires.
Two people were on the roof, lifting the wires out of the way as
the house was towed slowly underneath.
The truck driver, Jeffrey Douglas Pounder, said he did all he
could to get across the tracks.
"We're very lucky nobody was killed or seriously hurt," Eikum
said. "When you look at the damage to house and the damage to the
engine -- we're really fortunate."
The accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. The fans had
attended the Seattle-Buffalo game, won 42-23 by the Bills.
