DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins continued to upgrade their offense Monday, signing guard Leon Searcy to a one-year contract.

The team also signed wide receiver Dedric Ward to a two-year contract extension.

The moves came just three days after the Dolphins traded for running back Ricky Williams.

Searcy signed a one-year, $750,000 deal and will compete for a starting job despite missing the last two seasons with injuries.

Last year with the Baltimore Ravens, he missed the entire season because of a torn triceps tendon in his left arm. He missed all of 2000 because of a right quadriceps injury.

A first-round draft pick in 1992, the 6-foot-4, 320-pound lineman spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, then played five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started all 16 games for the Jaguars at right tackle in 1999 -- his last injury-free year -- and was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Ward, who signed as a free agent last April, caught 21 passes for 209 yards in 2001. He missed three games because of a foot injury, and had a second operation on his left foot last month.

The Dolphins also signed receiver Sulecio Sanford on Monday.
