About the play: Jeff George and the Vikings are on fire. They run the slant route a lot and run it well. The pigeon route is the next step. It is simply a fake slant and go. The Vikings run the slant so well that the Buccaneers must respect the slant and jump on it. If they don't, the Vikings will kill them with the short passing game.

The Vikings' receivers will run their six-yard slants and peek back at George, who will pump-fake and reset. Then he will throw the deep ball to Jake Reed or Randy Moss. The H receiver (Cris Carter) will run a flat-and-up route as an outlet for George if they jump Reed, the X receiver.

Keys to the play: The key to the pigeon is all about the setup. The Vikings must call the slant a few times early in the game to force the Bucs to see the slant a few times and get them thinking about stopping the slant. That is when the Vikings will use this play. They will also run it anywhere on the field.

Critical player: It is critical that George get the ball up and down quickly so the safety can't converge on the ball. George will get it there quicker than anyone in the league.
