John Elway is one victory away from his fifth Super Bowl appearance. |
Remember all those late-season whispers about how the Broncos were starting to slip? Well, forget 'em. The Super Bowl champs made quite a statement in their playoff opener Saturday, flattening the Dolphins in a 38-3 rout to reach the AFC Championship Game. Terrell Davis, who won his first NFL MVP award earlier in the day, rumbled for 199 yards on 21 carries -- the sixth-best effort in playoff history -- as Denver rolled up 250 yards rushing and 424 total yards on Miami's vaunted defense. Dan Marino failed to get the Dolphins in the end zone, as the Broncos defense turned things around after getting burned in a 31-21 loss at Miami in late December.
