User feedback: Congrats to the NFL

ESPN.com

The NFL is making realignment changes for the arrival of Houston in 2002. Out of the seven realignment plans under consideration, option A1 is the plan the committee decided on. Here are your thoughts on the option A1 plan:

Good job NFL
Finally, the NFL does something that really makes sense. They have created even divisions, kept key rivalries, and reduced the amount of senseless travel for teams. Now, if we can just keep them from additional expansion ...

Cut down on travel time
I like it. I think the owners did the best they could. In most cases, geographically it makes a lot of sense. Most of the main rivalries are still there. Good Job!!

Really, plan is to save money
Why is Miami in the East and not in the South? Why did the Colts go to the South and not the North, and why is Dallas, not going to the West? I thought this was a move based on money saving for the teams and the organization. If you ask me Miami should be in the South not the Colts, the Colts should be in the North not Baltimore. The new plan seems to only favor a couple of teams as far as money saving goes.

Road trippin'
Great! Finally the league has come to its senses and realigned teams according to geographic location. Fans will be able to make the drive to road games within their division more often, providing the league with an increase in gate receipts. Also, they've managed to keep almost all of the division rivalries intact. The teams that moved should benefit, especially Arizona. If they can make headway against their new division opponents in the standings and qualify for the postseason, maybe they'll get that new stadium after all! The NFL should look forward to a very successful 2002 season.

Buffalo-Miami rivalry continues
I think the realignment is good because it prevents having too many teams in one division and not enough in another. When it comes down to it, I really don't care as long as Buffalo still plays Miami I have no problems with the "New NFL."

Round 1 excitement: Texas/Titans matchup
I love the new alignment! Especially because now the team I grew up with in Houston, the Oilers (Titans) will come and play my new team, the Texans. How great is it to see the old franchise you love play the new franchise you root for in the city you all called home? I can't wait for the first Texans/Titans game.

Tough brake for Colts
This affects the Colts tremendously! They stated that the move was made based on geographic location. If that were true then Miami should be in the AFC South, Indianapolis should be in the AFC North and Baltimore should be in the AFC East where the original Colts were located. I may be complaining because the Colts will be in the toughest division in football but it still makes more sense using this plan. Can you name a better creation of a rivalry than Miami-Jacksonville?
John Collins

Something doesn't work
I think it's great the owners were able to be so decisive. One question, why keep Miami in the AFC East and move Indianapolis to the AFC South? I thought this was about geographics.
David Knippenberg

Bucs dominate No. 1 spot
Are you kidding me? The Bucs look to get at least five wins a year by moving in with the Saints, Panthers and Falcons ... This virtually guarantees Tampa a winning team for years to come! No other team even comes close to getting this much good fortune from the realignment. And new rivalries will form as quickly as old ones are forgotten ...

One league understands
In a world of sporting travesties (A-Rod) and neverending doldrums (NBA season), it is wonderfully refreshing to see the NFL step up and make something so good, so much better!

Slipped with St. Louis
This realignment is obviously based on the clique of owners that control the NFL. The plan makes no sense. Why would St. Louis be in the same division as Seattle, San Francisco, and Arizona? This is worst than the present NFC West. St. Louis should be with Kansas City, Chicago, and/or Indianapolis. This makes sense. Again the NFL owners are showing how out of touch they are with reality and doing what makes sense. Bad decision!

Plan customed for Ravens
Every division except one looks tough. Baltimore has got to be happy with getting out of having to face Tennessee and Jacksonville twice a year. Instead they get Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh (the only team that approaches respectability). I think Baltimore can start printing about 4 years worth of "AFC North Champions" hats.

Good riddance Tampa
As a Packer fan, I honestly cannot say I'm upset about the realignment. Seeing Warren Sapp and the rest of the Tampa Bay Bucs moving away is welcome to me any way you put it. I will miss them, however. Or maybe not!

Someone needs a geography lesson
Seems like a reasonable plan. Trouble is, Dallas and Miami are not in the southern divisions of their appropriate conferences and Carolina and Indianapolis are not in the Eastern division of their appropriate conferences? If this plan was created from a more geographic perspective then my question is ...Whose perspective?
