Oilers' Salo salvages tie with Sharks

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- The Edmonton Oilers' home-unbeaten streak is intact because of Tommy Salo.

Salo made 32 saves Wednesday night to help the Edmonton to a 1-1 tie with the San Jose Sharks, the Oilers' seventh straight home game without a loss (4-0-3).

"We're playing a lot harder at home," said Bill Guerin, who scored the Oilers' goal late in the second period. "We're playing a lot smarter here. Our home record was one of our problems last season."

The Sharks outshot the Oilers 23-9 over the final 45 minutes and 33-21 overall.

"We were up 1-0, so they had to jump up," Salo said. "They had to come at us hard in the third period."

Salo had a dangerous moment in overtime when Owen Nolan appeared to be on a breakaway. However, the San Jose winger couldn't control the bouncing puck.

"I was a little nervous on that," Salo said. "The puck was bouncing. I was lucky there."

Alexander Korolyuk scored San Jose's goal on a power play early in the third period.

Doug Weight extended his point-scoring streak to five games with a perfect pass that set up Guerin's 11th goal. Guerin's quick release from the slot beat goalie Steve Shields high on the glove side at 19:12 of the second. Weight has three goals and six assists during the streak.

Korolyuk knocked in a rebound of a shot by Patrick Marleau at 5:37 of the third. The puck was sitting in the crease as Korolyuk swept it in from the side to beat Salo.

"Both goaltenders played well," said San Jose's Jeff Friesen. "When that happens, you have to wait for your opportunities."

Rem Murray returned to the Edmonton lineup after missing 28 games with sprained ligaments in his right knee. To make room for Murray on the roster, Michel Picard was placed on waivers.

San Jose defenseman Bryan Marchment left the game after injuring his ankle early in the second period.
