CHICAGO (AP) -- Even with the roll the Colorado Avalanche has been on, they couldn't come back on the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chris Drury, Boris Mironov, Jocelyn Thibault,
Chicago goaltender Jocelyn Thibault makes a point-blank save on Colorado's Chris Drury, left, as Boris Mironov finishes a check on Drury.

Doug Gilmour had a goal and an assist Sunday night as the Chicago Blackhawks took an early lead and snapped Colorado's five-game unbeaten streak with a 5-3 victory.

Dean McAmmond, Eric Daze, Tony Amonte, Alexei Zhamnov also scored for Chicago, which has consecutive home victories for the first time this season.

Steve Sullivan assisted on two goals for the Blackhawks, who have the league's second-worst home record at 6-12-3.

By 3:49 of the second period, the Blackhawks had a 3-0 lead.

Colorado's Peter Forsberg scored goals two minutes apart in the second period, extending his point streak to eight games and cutting the Avalanche deficit to 3-2.

"We had our chances to tie it up," Forsberg said. "(Jocelyn) Thibault made some big saves. "But tonight we gave them way too much room at the start. We didn't play a smart road game."

McAmmond gave Chicago a 1-0 lead with 4:18 gone, converting a rebound of Steve Sullivan's shot.

The Blackhawks extended their lead to 3-0 early in the third on goals by Daze and Amonte in a 2:03 span. Daze slid a rebound of his own shot under goalie Marc Denis at 1:46, before Amonte scored his 20th goal by completing a give-and-go with Gilmour.

"That was a great game for us," Amonte said. "It's a big challenge playing against one the better offensive clubs in the league and everyone was up to the challenge."

Forsberg made it 3-1 at 5:21 when he circled the net and slid a low show between Thibault's pads. He tallied again at 7:21 by moving through the Chicago slot and beating Thibault.

Chris Drury had the other Colorado goal.

Zhamnov's gave the Blackhawks a 4-2 lead on the power play when he scored from the right point with 7:32 left in the second.

Drury scored on a low shot from the slot at 10:50 of the third to make it 4-3. Gilmour added an empty-net goal with 10.7 seconds left.
