EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- It was all about special teams for the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers had three power-play goals and two short-handed Wednesday night en route to a 7-0 rout of the Calgary Flames.

Tommy Salo stopped 24 shots to record his first shutout in 51 games with the Oilers.

"They scored a couple of goals early and that was the game," Flames coach Brian Sutter said. "Their power play was good. It made a difference."

The loss snapped the Flames' four-game winning streak.

"We stood around and watched," Sutter said. "We didn't play like we have for the last couple of months. We didn't play at the level we should have."

Tom Poti and Mike Grier scored short-handed goals 21 seconds apart in the third period and Doug Weight, Ryan Smyth and Bill Guerin scored on power plays. Alexander Selivanov and Sean Brown also scored for the Oilers.

"When you can get everybody involved, it's a lot of fun," Weight said. "Not to take anything away from the Flames, they're a good club, but a blowout can help the guys build confidence."

Poti scored at 3:56 when he stole the puck at the Calgary blue line and his light shot was mishandled by a Flames defender and beat Fred Brathwaite.

"We knew we had to come out flying, hitting and banging," Poti said.

Twenty-one seconds later, Grier and Todd Marchant broke in on a two-on-one and Grier converted Marchant's perfect pass from the boards.

After Grier's goal, Sutter pulled Brathwaite in favor of Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Weight scored on Edmonton's eighth shot with a long slap shot on a power play at 6:56 of the first.

"The guys looked at it as a playoff game," Weight said. "We came out, played the body and they took a few penalties. We had success on the power play. We've been saying for a month that the cream is going to rise. We took it to them early and created goals."

Smyth increased the Oilers' lead, deflecting Jim Dowd's point shot on a power play, at 11:02 of the second.

Guerin scored Edmonton's third power-play goal with 1:31 remaining.

Selivanov's slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle beat Giguere at 5:28 of the third. It was Selivanov's first goal in 21 games, dating to Dec. 1 against the Colorado Avalanche.

Oilers' coach Kevin Lowe was pleased with his team's effort.

"It was a little more relaxed game than I anticipated," he said. "It's nice to see the guys' creativity."
