ATLANTA (AP) -- Things just keep getting better for Lubos Bartecko and the St. Louis Blues.

The second-year right wing scored twice and Pavol Demitra added his 100th career goal Thursday night as the Blues beat the Atlanta Thrashers 5-2 to tie an NHL record with their 10th straight road victory.

"It's meant a lot to me because I'm a young guy here," Bartecko said. "It's my first -- I mean second -- year. We're just trying to play every game hard. We have a great defense and great goalies."

In a matchup between the best and worst teams, St. Louis equaled the road mark set by the 1983-84 Buffalo Sabres. The Blues, who own the league's best away record (22-8-2), have outscored opponents 39-15 during the streak that started Jan. 21 at Chicago.

They can break the record with a victory at Florida on Saturday.

"I think, to most of the guys, it kind of snuck up on us," Blues backup goalie Jamie McLennan said after his club outshot the expansion Thrashers 33-14. "We didn't know until people started talking about it."

Demitra made it 2-2 just 3:59 into the second period with a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Norm Maracle. Stationed near the bottom of the right circle, Demitra took Michal Handzus' pass from behind the net for his team-leading 26th goal.

Bartecko put the Blues up for good 2:23 later with his 14th goal -- a sweeping shot from the middle of the left circle.

Just 21 seconds into the third, Bartecko made it 4-2 with a slap shot from the top of the slot after Demitra fed him a pass from the rear boards.

"Scoring a couple of goals is a great feeling," Bartecko said. "We tied a record, so all we have to do is keep it up."

The Blues, who have won 14 of 16, got an empty-net goal with three seconds left on Scott Pellerin's shot from near center ice. They improved to 28-0-0 when leading after two periods.

Just as he did in his last outing -- a 4-1 victory over the Thrashers on Feb. 15 -- McLennan, who improved to 8-3-1, faced only 14 shots.

Maracle lost his ninth straight start for the Thrashers, who have dropped four straight and 15 of 17.

Hnat Domenichelli scored a breakaway goal from the top of the left circle for a 1-0 Atlanta lead 10:53 in.

Handzus answered just 2:06 later after Maracle failed to clear the puck from behind the net. Handzus was stationed at the right side of the crease when Bartecko sent him a pass from the bottom of the left circle.

"We've got nine guys out of lineup, we need some help," Atlanta coach Curt Fraser said. "We've got to get some of these guys that are hurt back in the lineup, and the sooner we do that the sooner we'll get back to finding ways to win every night."

Atlanta captain Kelly Buchberger managed to return to the game after Al MacInnis gave him a knee bruise late in the second period. MacInnis, who won the hardest shot contest at the All-Star game, ripped the puck from the top of the right circle that struck Buchberger.

Nelson Emerson gave the Thrashers, who fell to 0-8 against Central Division teams, a 2-1 lead with one minute to go in the first.
