Panthers still hottest thing in Florida

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -- Pavel Bure made it easy for Mike Wilson.

Bure gift-wrapped a pass to Wilson for an overtime goal as Florida beat Pittsburgh 2-1 on Saturday night for the Panthers' fifth victory in six games.

Bure took a pass from Ray Whitney, and slipped a cross-ice pass to Wilson through two defensemen. Wilson flipped the puck into an open net for his second goal of the season.

"I looked up and saw no one in front of me and Pavel made the pass," Wilson said. "It was an empty net, an easy goal."

Florida, 8-1-1 at home, is the only NHL team to earn at least a point in every home game, with the lone loss coming in overtime.

The Penguins, 3-3 in their last six games, played without star forward Jaromir Jagr. The NHL scoring leader is sidelined by a right thigh injury.

Jagr, who missed his first full game of the season, flew home after Thursday night's game against Tampa Bay for rehabilitation and is listed as day-to-day. Jagr has 13 goals and 25 points in 23 career games against Florida.

"Points are always hard to come by if he's not playing," Panthers goalie Trevor Kidd said of Jagr. "He creates scoring chances. That's one less unbelievable player on the ice."

Kidd, who allowed a soft goal to Stephen Leach in the first period, has earned a point in every game he has played this season. He is 9-2-2, with the two losses coming in overtime.

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead at 4:05 of the first period on what appeared to be a simple dump-in from the blue line by Leach. The slow-rolling puck snaked through Kidd.

"When it happens, you hope it doesn't cost you the game," Kidd said. "But, who cares now?"

"The puck was rolling like a Frisbee," Leach said. "Sometimes that gives the goalie a hard time."

Florida's Viktor Kozlov tied it with a power-play goal at 16:55 of the second period.

"I felt we played a pretty solid road game for not having Jaromir," Penguins coach Kevin Constantine said. "But the turning point is not converting some of those chances and letting them back in."
