BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo spoiled a solid performance by rookie goalie Martin Biron, giving St. Louis' Jamie McLennan an easy shutout.

Mike Eastwood scored a goal and assisted on another by Lubos Bartecko as St. Louis snapped Buffalo's three-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory Friday night.

McLennan's 19 saves were enough for his sixth career shutout and first since February. McLennan credited his teammates with keeping Buffalo off the board.

"It was a real textbook road game, solid defense," McLennan said. "The forwards had good backside pressure and I got to see a lot of the pucks. No rebounds."

St. Louis also ended Buffalo's NHL-best stretch of seven straight home victories, as the Sabres were shut out for the fourth time this season. St. Louis has won five of its last seven games and five of its last six on the road.

"Our defense did an excellent job of standing them up," Blues coach Joel Quenneville said. "They didn't get a lot of opportunities off the rush, and they've got a speed team, so we neutralized that area pretty well. Everybody had a lot of energy tonight."

The Sabres just couldn't keep up.

"We were second to every puck, second on every play," Buffalo captain Michael Peca said.

Biron, playing in place of injured goalie Dominik Hasek, made 34 saves in one of his best NHL games. Biron, the top goalie in the AHL last season, is 9-4-0 with one shutout in a season he was supposed to spend observing Hasek.

"We wasted Marty's best game of the year," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "The game was embarrassing. Marty was the only guy who got anything accomplished."

McLennan's biggest save came seven minutes into the third period when he gloved a shot in front by Stu Barnes.

Eastwood scored his eighth of the season with a cross-ice pass from Ladislav Nagy at 5:09 of the second period. The play began with a giveaway by Sabres defenseman Cory Sarich, who failed to control a bouncing puck in the Buffalo zone.

"That was just a lucky break," Eastwood said. "Their guy just didn't get it out. I came from way back and (Nagy) saw me. He put it perfect; it couldn't have been any better."

It could have been worse for Buffalo in the second period, but Biron stopped a flurry of five shots on a St. Louis power play, and defenseman Alexei Zhitnik also blocked one at the goal line after Biron got caught out of the crease.

Biron robbed Nagy with a sprawling glove save outside the crease with 4:46 left in the second.

Finally, Bartecko scored the Blues' second goal with a shot from the bottom of the right circle over Biron's glove. Pavol Demitra set up the play with a pass from the opposite corner, and Eastwood also assisted on the goal at 16:26 of the second.

The Sabres relied on Biron to keep it from turning into a rout. Biron made 13 saves in the first period and 15 in the second.

Biron stopped a close-range shot by Ladislav Nagy after a giveaway by Sabres wing Maxim Afinogenov at 7:18 of the first, foiled Derek King in front and turned back a bid by Demitra on a power play midway through the first.

Biron made a big save on a point-blank shot by Michal Handzus five minutes into the third.
