KANATA, Ontario (AP) -- Goaltender Patrick Lalime knows a little bit about tradition, so he feels good about beating the old guard of the NHL. "It was nice, especially against one of the original six teams," Lalime said after his performance helped the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory Tuesday night over the struggling Chicago Blackhawks. Andreas Dackell and Magnus Arvedson scored 27 seconds apart early in the third period as the Senators overcame a 1-0 deficit. Ottawa got the decisive goal when defenseman Jason York's shot deflected in off Arvedson's stick at 5:22, and Lalime preserved with the lead by withstanding a 6-on-4 manpower advantage by the Blackhawks in the final minute. "Radek Bonk won the faceoff and put it right to the spot he told me he would," York said. "Magnus did a great job going to the net." Eric Daze scored for Chicago in the teams' only meeting this season. The Blackhawks, 7-4-2 against the Senators since Ottawa entered the NHL, completed a seven-game road trip in which they won just once and managed another point in an overtime loss. Lalime beat Steve Passmore in a matchup of backup goaltenders. Ottawa starter Ron Tugnutt is out with a knee injury, and Chicago's Jocelyn Thibault with a broken finger. The Senators outshot the Blackhawks 35-26. Despite the solid performance by Passmore, there is speculation Blackhawks general manager Bob Murray may acquire Felix Potvin from the New York Islanders because Thibault will be out for a month. Passmore isn't sure that will be necessary. "Do I think I can handle the load?" asked Passmore, who had been sent down to Cleveland on Nov. 21. "Yeah. I came back and felt comfortable and confident." Still, he felt somewhat deflated by the loss. "Every loss feels like another 1,000-pound weight fell on your pumpkin," he said. Lalime made a several strong saves midway through the second period, as did Passmore with five minutes left in the period. Daze opened the scoring 1:42 into the third period when his shot trickled into the net with Lalime on his back. "I was kind of guessing and it went right through me," Lalime said.
