DETROIT (AP) -- With Brendan Shanahan on the ice, the Detroit Red Wings are still able to win despite a lengthy injury list.

Shanahan scored two goals, including the game-winner allowed
after a video review, to lead the Red Wings to a 4-2 victory
Wednesday night over the San Jose Sharks.
Shanahan has eight goals and four assists in Detroit's last nine
games. He has scored five times in the last four games -- all of
which the Red Wings have played without injured forwards Sergei
Fedorov, Darren McCarty, Doug Brown and Kris Draper.
"Our line been skating well and getting chances," said
Shanahan, whose 13 goals lead the team. "We still feel like we can
play better."
Shanahan broke a 2-2 tie in the third period moments after Owen
Nolan lost control of the puck on a short-handed breakaway near the
Detroit net. The Red Wings skated back and Nicklas Lidstrom passed
to Shanahan, who fired a shot past Mike Vernon from the right
circle.
The puck went in and out of the net so quickly that neither the
goal judge nor referees signaled a score and play continued for
about two minutes.
"I was just hoping for a whistle," Shanahan said, "because I
knew those minutes we lost, we'd have to replay them."
At the next stoppage, a video review clearly showed that
Shanahan's shot was a goal, and Detroit had the lead at 4:58.
Lidstrom one-timed a pass from Steve Duchesne past Vernon for an
insurance goal at 13:49.
Detroit also played without regular goalie Chris Osgood, who
missed his third straight game with a bruised right hand. Ken
Wregget again took his place and made 29 saves.
Vernon made 33 saves against his former teammates.
"They're a good team and we're trying to be a good team,"
Vernon said. "But we're going to have to play a lot better than we
are right now if we're going to do that."
For the second straight game, the Red Wings blew a 2-0 lead. San
Jose overcame first-period goals from Igor Larionov and Shanahan
with second-period scores from Gary Suter and Nolan.
But unlike Sunday, when Detroit gave up four straight
third-period goals in a 4-3 loss to Phoenix, there was time to
regroup against the Sharks.
"You don't want to repeat that, and that's what happened in the
second period," Wregget said. "But we had 20 minutes left to do something about it."
The Sharks are 1-16 in regular-season games at Joe Louis Arena, the only win coming on Jan. 2, 1998.
"If there was ever a chance to get two points out of here, this was it," Sharks defenseman Bob Rouse said.
Larionov opened the scoring 5:53 into the first period when he
got free near Vernon and easily converted Martin Lapointe's pass
from the goal line left of the net.
Shanahan made it 2-0 after Pat Verbeek poked the puck away from Mike Ricci just inside the Sharks' zone.
"I should've known better than that," Ricci said.
Shanahan skated in with the giveaway and lifted a wrist shot over Vernon's glove at 14:30.
The Sharks had been outshot 24-10 when Suter got free from Jiri
Fischer in front of the net and scored 13:54 into the second period.
Nolan tied it with his 16th goal at 17:29 of the second with a
power-play blast from the left circle that got between Wregget and the left post.
"We've just got to play better," Ricci said. "Anyone who
thinks we're playing well enough to win wasn't here."
