CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- Fred Brathwaite is taking full advantage of extensive playing time with the Calgary Flames. Brathwaite made 35 saves and Hnat Domenichelli had a goal and an assist as Calgary beat Ottawa 2-1 Saturday night for its fifth straight home victory. "Things are going really well right now and the puck seems to be hitting me," Brathwaite said. "My coach has given me a chance to play and obviously I have to thank him for that, especially when there's a goalie like Grant Fuhr here." Brathwaite, making his 14th start in the last 16 games, allowed only Igor Kravchuk's power-play goal at 13:43 of the first period. Brathwaite has given up just one goal in each of his last three games. "I'm a little bit sentimental because both of us have been down in the trenches in our career and have had to battle our way out," said Ottawa goalie Ron Tugnutt, who finished with 23 saves. "I remember talking to Freddie last year when he first got his chance here. I told him this is a great opportunity for you to battle your way out like I did and make a long career out of it. He's well on his way to doing that." Calgary opened the scoring at 3:14 of the first period when Domenichelli won a faceoff back to rookie defenseman Robyn Regehr, who sent a long wrist shot through Tugnett's pads. Domenichelli made it 2-0 less than four minutes later, with his backhand shot from the slot deflecting in off Ottawa defenseman Patrick Traverse's stick. The last time Calgary won five straight at the Canadian Airlines Saddledome was Feb. 7-15, 1997. The Flames play nine of their next 12 games at home. | ALSO SEE NHL Scoreboard Ottawa Clubhouse Calgary Clubhouse RECAPS Calgary 2 Ottawa 1
