| SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers, who are off
to a 4-1-1 start, Wednesday placed captain Scott Mellanby on injured
reserve, retroactive to Oct. 12, with a concussion.

Mellanby has not played since suffering the injury against the
Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 12. The right wing has registered
just one assist in four games with the Panthers this season.
Florida also has been without superstar right wing Pavel Bure,
who has missed the last three games with a strained groin. Bure also missed a chance to play against his former team, the Vancouver Canucks, on Wednesday night.
The Panthers recalled right wing Dwayne Hay from Louisville of
the American Hockey League to take Mellanby's place on the
roster. Hay, 22, had three goals and three assists in six games with Louisville.
Hay appeared in nine games with the Panthers last season but did
not score. He saw action in two contests with the Washington Capitals in 1997-98, also failing to register a point.
The Panthers are in first place in the Southeast Division, one point ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes. | |
