St. Louis defenseman Al MacInnis, out since taking a high stick to the left eye a week ago against San Jose, is not close to coming back, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saturday.
"It'll be another couple of weeks at least," general manager Larry Pleau told the Post Dispatch on Friday. "The blood has to get out from behind his eye, and the pressure has to recede."
MacInnis suffered a cut eyelid, blurred vision, a scratched cornea and the disappointment of being scratched from the North America All-Stars. Then blood gathered in his eye cavity.
Teammate Pavol Demitra had a similar problem when high-sticked in the right eye. He missed 17 games.
Pleau did not say that MacInnis would be out that long. "I think his vision's OK," Pleau said. "That blur was caused by the blood in the eye. But when that goes away, he'll be out all this time and he'll need to get back in shape."
MacInnis left the Jan. 27 game, a 4-3 loss, after taking a
high stick from San Jose's Scott Hannan. MacInnis received stitches
to his left eyelid and did not return to the game.
Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
