The agent for restricted free-agent defenseman Kyle McLaren said his client will not report to Boston Bruins training camp when it opens on Sept. 12.

Neal Abbott told the Boston Herald that McLaren's hold out has nothing to do with money. McLaren, the team's best all-around defenseman, requested a trade in July.

"He's not signed and he won't be,'' Abbot said. "We're not trying to sign him (with the Bruins) and he has no intention of signing."

McLaren, who was drafted ninth overall by the Bruins in 1995, told the Bruins over the summer that he'd like a fresh start with another team. The oft-injured blueliner has yet to play a full NHL schedule in seven seasons.

According to the Herald, the Bruins have not offered McLaren a raise from the $1.755 million he earned last season. Abbott also told the paper that McLaren's hold out is not a tactic to get more money from the Bruins

"Not at all, not even an issue at all," said Abbott. "That's not even on the radar screen. This has nothing to do with money at all.

"This is simply a case where we believe a change of scenery is in his best interest and hopefully he can get restarted somewhere else."

General manager Mike O'Connell said he has received inquiries, but pointed out earlier this offseason that he would only trade McLaren for a comparable player.
