Martin Brodeur
| | Once again, Brodeur was a regular-season work horse. | Height: 6-1 | Weight: 205 | Age: 27
Experience: Eighth NHL season
The lowdown: Brodeur started more than 70 games for the second consecutive season, and broke the 40-win barrier for the second time in his career. He has won the Cup before and has a postseason GAA of 1.95. However, Brodeur was somewhat inconsistent down the stretch, once again raising questions whether he was overused in the regular season.
Ultimately, Brodeur may not command the respect that Patrick Roy does, but he's definitely one of the best.
In the past, the Devils haven't scored a lot in the playoffs, relying on clutch goals and Brodeur. The lineup is more potent this year, so a few more goals could take a little pressure of the All-Star goalie, which can only help New Jersey's chances, especially against a dangerous Florida team.
DARREN PANG'S ANALYSIS OF MARTIN BRODEUR |
How to beat Brodeur |
How Brodeur beats you |
There has been a lot of talk about Brodeur being a little weaker on the stick side than he is on the glove side. That's typical for a lot of goalies. In recent years, that may not be the case with Brodeur. He is squaring himself up to the shooter much better. But if I had to pick the weakest possible area, I would choose his stick side from the short side. That means a player going down the left wing has a better chance of scoring on him. |
Brodeur beats you in a lot of ways -- with his great puck handling, his athletic ability moving side to side, and his excellent glove. He also makes saves that are typical for the playoffs, but they are saves you aren't supposed to make. |
