PASADENA, California (Ticker) -- Roy Meyer scored twice and the Los Angeles Galaxy moved into a tie for first place in the Western Conference with a 3-1 triumph over the San Jose Clash.

Myers got the Galaxy (16-9) on the board early, scoring 75 seconds into the match. Defender Mauricio Wright collided with goalkeeper Joe Cannon in front of the San Jose net and could not get in position to disrupt the Los Angeles attack.

Myers took a pass from midfielder Danny Pena and bounced a shot into the net off of the far goalpost.

San Jose had several scoring chances in the first half, but Los Angeles `keeper Kevin Hartman looked strong as the Galaxy went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Myers struck again, stealing the ball from Wright at the top of the penalty area. Myers passed to teammate Carlos Hermosillo and continued toward the net. Hermosillo returned the ball to Myers, who deftly placed it into the back of the net in the 58th minute.

Immediately after the restart, Alejandro Sequiera of the Clash halved the deficit when he rifled a shot past Hartman. Ronald Cerritos' assist was his 100th MLS point, making him the 13th player to reach the century mark.

The Galaxy sealed the victory in the 69th minute on a penalty kick by defender Greg Vanney. Los Angeles was awarded the placement after Wade Barrett took down a streaking Clint Mathis in the penalty area. Midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos normally takes penalty kicks for the Galaxy, but coach Sigi Schmid opted for Vanney since Cannon stopped Cienfuegos on his last two attempts.

Los Angeles and Colorado share first place in the West, two points ahead of Chicago.

San Jose (14-11) remained fifth, 16 points out of playoff contention.
