DENVER (AP) -- Danny Pena and Joe Franchino scored to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids and clinch their MLS Western Conference semifinal series on Sunday. The result left the Rapids with a league record for futility, 679 minutes of play without a goal to close out their season. The Rapids have not scored in seven games and failed to score a single goal in 12 of their last 15 games. "I've never encountered anything like this in my life, playing soccer for the better part of 25 years," Rapids forward Paul Bravo said. "It's unbelievable." The Galaxy, which swept the best-of-3 series in two games, didn't put the game away until the 74th minute when Pena scored. Franchino scored 10 minutes later. Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman made five saves for the shutout. Los Angeles advanced to the Western Conference finals against the winner of the Chicago-Dallas series, which goes to a decisive third game on Wednesday. | ALSO SEE Soccer Scoreboard Major League Soccer playoff schedule
