Galaxy singe Burn, remain unbeaten

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- Paul Caligiuri and Clint Mathis scored goals as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Dallas Burn 2-1 on Saturday night to remain undefeated in Major League Soccer play.

Caligiuri outmaneuvered Dallas midfielder Chad Deering to deflect Mauricio Cienfuegos' free kick past goalkeeper Matt Jordan in the 17th minute. It was the defender's first goal since April 24, 1999.

Caligiuri got the start, his first since the season opener March 20, because Ezra Hendrickson missed the match to play for St. Vincent & the Grenadines in a World Cup qualifier against St. Kitts.

Mathis volleyed in Cobi Jones' cross in the 67th minute for his third goal of the season as Los Angeles improved to 3-0-2. It remained one point ahead of Kansas City (3-0-1), the only other undefeated team in the Western Division.

Ariel Graziani scored for Dallas (3-2) in the 83rd minute. The scoring sequence began with Deering's corner kick, which Jason Kreis headed downward. Galaxy defender Robin Fraser failed to clear the ball away. Eric Dade and Oscar Pareja both took pokes at the ball, with Graziani putting it past goalkeeper Kevin Hartman for his fourth goal.

Mathis apparently scored a second goal, but referee Richard Heron ruled the three minutes of stoppage time had been completed.

Los Angeles led 13-12 in shots with both teams taking five shots on goal before 16,244 at the Rose Bowl. Hartman made four saves and Jordan three.
