Mo Johnston and the Wizards couldn't find the net ... but neither could Galaxy. |
Meola raised his league-leading total to six shutouts for Kansas
City (6-0-2), which has allowed one goal in its last 650 minutes of
play.
Kevin Hartman stopped Mo Johnston's shot in the 38th minute to
record his fourth shutout for Los Angeles (5-0-3) before a crowd of
17,098 at the Rose Bowl.
Meola, whose 27 career shutouts are an MLS record, stopped shots
by Zak Ibsen in the 10th minute, Danny Pena in the 42nd, Clint
Mathis in the 43rd, and Cobi Jones during first-half injury time.
After the break, he denied Ibsen, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Roy Myers,
and Simon Elliott. That last save came three minutes into overtime.
The Galaxy led 16-10 in shots and 8-1 in shots on goal. The
Wizards did not take a shot in the second half or overtime.
Wizards forward Miklos Molnar, whose five goals lead the team,
remained in Kansas City because he sprained his left ankle Tuesday.
